Who We Are
ASTD New York (ASTDNY) is the local chapter of the American Society of Training & Development – the leading association of workplace learning and performance professionals in the world. Our members reflect the vibrant nature of the great city of New York and come from all types of organizations – multinational corporations, medium and small-sized businesses, nonprofit organizations, government, academia, consulting firms, and product and service suppliers.

Our Mission
To provide leadership to individuals, organizations, and society in achieving work-related competence, performance and fulfillment.

Why This Is Important
Smart leaders know that people are the key to driving an organization’s competitive edge. People are the chief asset in a fast-paced world, where knowledge and service are the currency of success. The best strategic solution to meet these challenges is workplace learning, which unleashes talent and leads people to peak performance.

What We Do

We bring people together through:

• Monthly Events - feature notable speakers and hot topics for our profession.
• Special Interest Groups and Committees - offer further exploration of specific interests and the opportunity to connect with other professionals.
• Free Networking Events - bring learning professionals, experts and practitioners together in relaxed settings to network and socialize.

• Volunteer opportunities – by partnering with business and community we offer members the opportunity to develop their skills, grow their network, and “give back” to the community.
• Professional Development Workshops – explore specific issues and practices in more depth.

• www.astdny.org - provides information and resources to the NY Metro area about the learning profession.
• LEARN the quarterly ASTDNY Newsletter – provides news, information and resources to those in our field. Also provides members the opportunity to publish original articles of interest to the profession.
• Research Projects – by partnering with academic institutions and business we offer insight into emerging trends and issues affecting workplace learning and performance.

• Alliances with companies, community organizations, and educational institutions throughout the city.

• Annual Celebrations and Awards – bring people together to celebrate and recognize the achievements of outstanding professionals in our field.

Our History
Though founded in 1952, it was in 1954 we adopted the ASTD designation. In September 2004, ASTDNY celebrated 50 years of leadership and service in the workplace learning and performance community. Our chapter has a rich history in this City and was recognized by national ASTD in 1995, 1998, and 2000 with the National Chapter Assessment and Recognition Award, and in October, 2004 as the Chapter of the Month.

Our Leadership
A Board of Directors sets the chapter’s strategic direction and provides leadership to the profession and members. A fantastic group of volunteers serve the membership.
