What's Your Value Proposition? Human resources professionals are under increasing pressure to demonstrate value while simultaneously managing more responsibilities with fewer resources. In this session, Bill Schiemann, CEO of the Metrus Group and advisor to over 100 Fortune 500 firms, will discuss how HR can develop stronger value propositions in their organizations and how to use metrics to more effectively secure resources. The audience will be challenged to engage in new thinking about measuring and managing their people equity, a rigorous approach to human resources management. The Use and Misuse of Management Competency Models Over the past several years, the American Management Association (AMA) developed a new Management Development Competency Model. In this session, Dan Tobin and Peg Pettingell will briefly describe the model''s development and validation. They will lead a discussion on how organizations use competency models, e.g., for writing job descriptions, interviewing and selecting personnel, and for development purposes. The discussion will include what organizations should consider before obtaining a competency model from a vendor. Dan Tobin is vice president of design and development at the American Management Association. Peg Pettingell is a senior instructional designer at AMA. Dan and Peg co-wrote The AMA Guide to Management Development (AMACOM, 2008).
