Oct 22	*The Use and Misuse of Management Competency Models* Over the past several years, the American Management Association (AMA) developed a new Management Development Competency Model. In this session, Dan Tobin and Peg Pettingell will briefly describe the model''s development and validation. They will lead a discussion on how organizations use competency models, e.g., for writing job descriptions, interviewing and selecting personnel, and for development purposes. The discussion will include what organizations should consider before obtaining a competency model from a vendor. Dan Tobin is vice president of design and development at the American Management Association. Peg Pettingell is a senior instructional designer at AMA. Dan and Peg co-wrote The AMA Guide to Management Development (AMACOM, 2008).
